Understanding Parent vs Student Access Overview

Family School has two types of accounts—Parent Accounts and Student Accounts.
Each account type has different permissions, tools, and views. Understanding these differences helps families use the platform correctly and avoid login confusion.

This article explains what each account can see and do.


Parent Accounts

Parent accounts are used to manage the Family School experience. Parents have access to all administrative tools and settings.

What Parents Can Do

  • Create and manage student accounts

  • Purchase and manage subscriptions

  • Enroll students in courses

  • Access the Parent Dashboard

  • Create and share calendars

  • View Character Core course materials

  • Download resources and printable materials

What Parents' Accounts Cannot Do

  • Watch student video lessons (video lessons display only in student accounts)

  • Access Skills Courses

  • Access student-only course content like Math and Language Arts

  • Attend Coached Class or Academic Suite sessions


Student Accounts

Student accounts are designed for children to complete coursework.

What Students Can Do

Students can access all content included in their plan, such as:

  • Character Core lessons (including video lessons in courses where videos are available)

  • Skills Core lessons

  • Math & Language Arts lessons

  • Coached Class links (Coached Class Add-On)

  • Math Lab and Language Arts Class links (Academic Suite Add-On)

  • Submit assignments (Academic Suite only)

  • See lessons assigned on their calendar

  • Mark lessons as completed
