Overview

Math and Language Arts are part of Family School’s Academic Core. These courses focus on building strong foundational skills in reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics. They are designed to be flexible, student-led, and leveled by grade.

This article explains how Math and Language Arts courses work, who can access them, and what families should expect.


Who Has Access to Math & Language Arts

Math and Language Arts courses are available only to students enrolled in the:

  • Online School – Premium Student Plan

  • Virtual School Add-Ons (Coached Class or Academic Suite)

They are not included in the Homeschool – Premium Parent Plan.


How Math & Language Arts Courses Are Organized

Leveled by Grade

  • Each subject is divided into grade-level courses

  • Students enroll in one Math and one Language Arts course at a time

  • Placement is based on readiness, not strictly age


Flexible Pacing

  • Lessons are completed at the student’s pace

  • Suggested calendars are provided inside each course

  • Families may move faster or slower as needed

What Math Focuses On

Math courses build understanding and confidence through:

  • Concept-based instruction

  • Practice and application

  • Problem-solving skills

Math Support Options

  • Independent learning (Student Plan)

  • Math Lab (Academic Suite Add-On):

    • Offered 3 times per week at noon MT

    • Students can ask questions and get help with weekly lessons


Language Arts Courses

What Language Arts Focuses On

Language Arts courses support:

  • Reading comprehension

  • Writing skills

  • Grammar and mechanics

  • Vocabulary development

Language Arts Support Options

  • Independent learning (Student Plan)

  • Language Arts Class (Academic Suite Add-On):

    • Held every Friday at noon MT

    • Includes instruction, discussion, and homework support


Assignments and Assessments

  • Most daily work is completed offline

  • Academic Suite students submit assessments through the platform

  • Parents review and manage work unless using Academic Suite grading
